Applications sought for the Allison Kim Levy Continuing Acts of Kindness Endowed Memorial Award at Hofstra University
Hofstra University, through a generous donation from the family and friends of Hofstra alumna Allison Kim Levy, offers two $1000 awards along with a certificate of recognition, for good works within the community. Students, faculty, and staff of the University are eligible.
Examples of service include such activities as development of community programs (e.g., initiating food distribution programs for the needy; tutoring programs for underachieving children, etc); or volunteer service in community programs (e.g., coordinating volunteers to help in food distribution; helping families to have access to community services by providing public announcements); or direct service in the community to individuals with special needs (e.g., reading for the visually impaired; in home behavior modification for the autistic child, etc.).
The program is administered through the Department of Psychology and awards are made on a yearly basis. This call for nominations is for work conducted during the 2010 calendar year and winners will be announced at the annual awards ceremony of the National Honor Society in Psychology in May.
Nominations for the Allison Kim Levy Continuing Acts of Kindness Endowed Memorial Award must include a written description of no more than 500 words of the nominated individual’s contributions to the community and there must also be two corroborating letters from two members of the community.
The written description and corroborating letters should be sent to Dr. Robert W. Motta, Director of the Psy.D. Program in School-Community Psychology, Psychology Department, 205 Hauser Hall, Hofstra University, Hempstead, New York 11549. A committee will select the winners.
Deadline for all applications is Friday, April 8, 2011.
