***Important announcement for Psych students***

Dear students,

I have important information to convey about some changes that we are making to the psychology curriculum. Please download the advisement worksheet from this blog. It has been revised to reflect modifications with respect to our course offerings. For many of you, these changes will not affect your options for the Fall 2013 semester. However, some changes might affect options for students who have taken/are taking/plan to take PSY 39 (Abnormal Psych) or PSY 53 (Child Development). If you have taken either of these courses in the past, if you are currently taking either of these courses, or if you intend to take either course in the summer, it is important that you read this email.

1. If you have taken PSY 39 (Abnormal) in the past, are taking it now, or take it in the summer: You cannot register for PSY 139 (Psychopathology) this Fall or any time in the future. This is because the content of PSY 139 will be identical to the content of PSY 39. *Note: PSY 39 (whether you’ve taken it in the past, present, or in the summer) will now satisfy the Developmental / Social / Clinical requirement from the Essentials category. This is good news for you! You don’t need to do anything for now – we will let you know in a future email how the change to your DAR will be implemented. If you have already satisfied the Developmental / Social / Clinical requirement, PSY 39 will count toward the Specialty / Applied Electives category of your PSY requirements. Note also that PSY 39 still satisfies a prerequisite for the Clinical Psychology Seminar (PSY 199).

2. If you have taken PSY 53 (Child Development) in the past, are taking it now, or take it in the summer: You cannot register for PSY 153. This is because PSY 53 is being renamed PSY 153. *Note: PSY 53 (whether you’ve taken it in the past, present, or in the summer) will now satisfy the Developmental / Social / Clinical requirement from the Essentials category. This is good news for you! You don’t need to do anything for now – we will let you know in a future email how the change to your DAR will be implemented. If you have already satisfied the Developmental / Social / Clinical requirement, PSY 53 will count toward the Specialty / Applied Electives category of your PSY requirements. Note also that PSY 53 still satisfies a prerequisite for the Developmental Psychology Seminar (PSY 196).

3. If, by the end of the summer, you will have completed BOTH PSY 39 and PSY 53: One course will satisfy the Developmental / Social / Clinical requirement and the other will count toward the Specialty / Applied Electives category. PSY 39 still satisfies a prerequisite for the Clinical Psychology Seminar (PSY 199) and PSY 53 still satisfies a prerequisite for the Developmental Psychology Seminar (PSY 196).

Best,

Dr. Weingartner
