Lab coordinator position at Penn

The Cognition & Development Lab at Penn, in collaboration with the Penn Laboratory for Understanding Science, seeks a full-time lab coordinator. This position is for one year, with the possibility of renewal dependent on funding. The preferred start date is June 1, 2016.

Both laboratories are active and highly collaborative with projects focused on many areas of cognition and cognitive development, including adults’ understanding of evolution, the development of scientific reasoning, and children’s imaginative cognition. The project coordinator will facilitate all aspects of these research projects, including interviewing adults, preschoolers, and school-age children; collecting and analyzing data from large-scale surveys; and designing testing instruments for both adults and children. In addition, the lab coordinator will be responsible for training and supervising undergraduate research assistants, cultivating a team orientation, and fostering a high degree of professionalism among lab members.

Other duties will include working with school and museum administrators, maintaining compliance with the University IRB, managing participant recruitment, maintaining the lab websites, purchasing materials, developing and maintaining lab procedures, maintaining a complex calendar system, preparing presentations and materials for meetings, screening and prioritizing mail (including email), drafting correspondence and other documents, initiating draft reports, and managing finances.

High school diploma and 5-7 years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience, is required. Bachelor’s degree in psychology or a related field within cognitive science and at least one year of relevant research experience, including research experience with children, is strongly preferred.  Experience providing support in a lab environment preferred, advanced knowledge of computer software including the Microsoft Office Suite; Web and experience handling complex information and data. The ideal applicant will have excellent organizational skills, strong writing skills, and the ability to multi-task and work independently. Attention to detail is crucial. Proficiency with statistical analysis (especially in R) would be a plus.
